Partner migration is a migration to Australia as the spouse, prospective spouse (fiancée) or interdependent partner (same-sex partner) of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

From 1st July 2017, the sponsoring Australian partner would need to go through a strict sponsor approval process. The applicant’s approval includes the following:

• Criminal checks
• detailed information on applicant’s immigration history
• financial information confirming the applicant’s ability to support the partner and dependent children

This means that the sponsorship application must be approved before a partner visa application can be lodged.
